About Marisa Escaleira

Marisa Escaleira (PT), is a designer working on the fields of costume, textile design and research, with an interest on materials, crafts, anthropology and cultural history.

Currently Phd student in Anthropology at ISCTE/Nova in Lisbon. Degree and a Master in Fashion Design from the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon (2003-2009) and a degree in Textile Design and Weaving from Modatex (2018).

As a costume designer for cinema, she has worked with O Som e a Fúria and for dance with Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Vera Mantero, Flora Detraz, David Marques and Sara Anjo.
She co-founded Coletivo Siroco, an artistic textile collective, developing research projects.

She often collaborates with Circular Economy Portugal, co-founding the textile recycling project RE:COSTURA and Repair Café Porto at OPOLAB.

Since 2021 she has been collaborating with Aga Khan Foundation Portugal supporting the creation of Bandim Cooperative, a multicultural platform for crafts and creative industries together with Instituto Renato Imbroisi (BR).
